Portion Sizes and Food Diaries

This is my first update since I’ve been in the USA, and I’m gonna keep it brief for a few reasons.

1. I have an amazing picture to share with you on portion sizes. Its the one above which shows me with a stack of pancakes from a restaurant called Mac 24/7.

Why did I order pancakes that big?
Because I had to see it for myself. A friend told me they’d seen them on a show called ‘Man vs Food.

Why would they make pancakes that big?
I have no idea. But if you can eat them by yourself within an hour, it’s free and you get your name on the wall.

Why did I eat it?
Well I’m only gonna see something like that once, so I had to try a small portion. You do get quite sick eating it though…at least I did, and I didn’t even get through a quarter of it.

But it brings up a good point about portion sizes and also about eating out.

You may need to address the size of your portions you dish up at home.

You may need to eat only until you are full when you eat out.

You may need to slow down your eating speed so the body can actually tell you its full before you are finished.

You may need to learn to leave what’s on your plate and not scrape up every last morsel just because you paid for it and don’t want it to go to waste.

I also put together a video before I left which I’ve still not shared with you on the blog, and it’s a good one. It’s a food diary for iPhone users which is so easy to use and takes no time to fill in.

You snap a picture, and can add notes on what and how much you ate. It will make your weight loss journey so much easier.

So check out the video if you have an iPhone. If you don’t, you may find the app for other platforms but I don’t know. It’s called Diet Snaps.

Next time I’ll let you know whats been happening on my trip.
